Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly yesterday Friday 7th December, 2018 marked its maiden farmers day celebration.
The event which was celebrated in a grand style at the forecourt of the Institute of Technical Studies (ITS), an institution on the Assembly’ premses was the first of its kind since the creation of the new Assembly.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor, the indefatigable Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe Constituency who doubles as Deputy Minister for Health, Hon. Tina Gifty Naa Ayeley Mensah and the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mrs Mercy Quansah were all in the high seats.
Others in attendance included, the Municipal Finance Officer, Mrs Grace Ahlibi, the Municipal Agricultural Director, Mr Daniel Nartey, the Presiding Member, Assembly Members, the NPP Constituency Executives and party members led by Mr Michael Danquah, Heads of Departments, staff of the Assembly and the general public were also in attendance to grace the historic event.
The chiefs with their elders were fully represented to add colour to the event.
The chairman for the celebration, Nii Boafo Danyinanse, Jaasetse of Weija advised Ghanaians to take up farming since it is the engine of growth for the country.
The MCE in his keynote address, announced various measures put in place to make farming attractive to the youth. He said his outfit will be going all out to make farming thrive in the municipality.
Hon Tina Naa Ayeley Mensah in her speech appealed to chiefs in to make land available to those interested agriculture.
Mr Paul Senehia was adjudged the best farmer in the municipality.
