On Monday 1st January, the first day of 2018, the Member of Parliament who doubles as Deputy for Health, Hon. Tina Naa Ayeley Mensah celebrated the New Year in a grand style with over 1,921 children drawn from all communities in 14 Electoral Areas in the constituency.
The event which is first of its kind organized under the watch of the MP received a lot commendation and praises from constituents and the general public who thronged to catch glimpse of the special.
The children drawn from various parts of the constituency were between the ages of 4 and 14 years and are of school going age. They were led to participate in various fun games by the Member of Parliament for the constituency.
In a close chat with the ever smiling and hard working Member of Parliament who doubles as Deputy Minister for Health under H.E Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration stated among other things that, she organized the event dubbed “ Time with the MP” to offer an opportunity to all children in her constituency to interact and play with her. “I love to see children happy; and having time with them gives me joy”, she remarked passionately.
She added that, the joy and happiness on the face of the children who attended the much patronized event gives her satisfaction and the passion to do more for children in the constituency in 2018 since they represent the face of the constituency and the country as a whole. Aside the educational package in the form of scholarship I have put in place for brilliant but needy children, I have decided to as part of my annual activities organized event of this nature to offer children a space to have fun with each other and me as their MP. “ All work and no play makes Jake a mere toy” she remarked.
“I have always yeaned to serve as a good role model to these innocent children who need some guidance and assistance in their upbringing” she told. She therefore advised the children who gathered at the event to obey their parents and teachers as well as the elderly in the society in which they live. This she claims will make them better individuals and adults in future.
According to some parents who brought their children to the event, they are happy to see the show of love and humility expressed by the Member of Parliament, Hon. Tina Naa Ayeley Mensah. They admitted the event was first of its kind and prayed it becomes a ritual affair in the constituency. “I am highly amazed to see the state woman interact and play with children as if they were peers”. These were the exact words of a father who was flabbergasted by the show of humility and love.
Santa Claus, popularly known as Father Christmas was in attendance to entertain the children. It was all fun. The children were given gifts by the Member of Parliament as her Christmas and New Year gifts to children in her constituency.
They were all refreshed and fed with sumptuous meal at the event.
